The quality of our worktops for Nobilia kitchens
At a glance: Every one of our Nobilia worktops is built for everyday kitchen life – dimensionally stable, scratch- and abrasion-resistant according to DIN 68930, heat-resistant up to 180 °C (dry) or 100 °C (moist), sealed to resist water, and precisely edge-banded. This gives you a custom kitchen worktop with outstanding quality – ideal for buying a worktop for new construction, replacement, or as a table made from a worktop.
Worktop surfaces - Find the perfect Nobilia worktop
Our all-purpose worktop: Standard 38 mm – HPL/CPL
Nobilia worktops offer a level of durability you won’t find in most DIY store worktops. DIN standard 68930 confirms exceptional scratch & abrasion resistance as well as tested heat resistance up to 180 °C dry / 100 °C moist.
What is HPL/CPL: HPL (= High Pressure Laminate) and CPL (= Continuous Pressure Laminate) are pressure-bonded laminates with high impact, scratch, and abrasion resistance.
Stress tests prove dimensional stability and color fastness for at least 15 years when properly cleaned and used.
In production, Nobilia places importance on a high-quality chipboard core from sustainable forestry as the base, with a top side made of a thick laminate top layer. The underside is sealed with resin-impregnated, water-repellent paper.
As standard, we always equip worktops with a decorative edge at the front, left, and right (exception: tongue-and-groove connection for L-shape or U-shape). If you would like to use the worktop as an island or table, we can also add a decorative edge to the back at a low cost.
We are also happy to carry out cut-outs, notches, and other custom adjustments at the factory. After ordering, the best thing is to send us a sketch by email.
What is an N-edge or D-edge at Nobilia
Nobilia distinguishes between two front-edge versions for standard worktops.
The modern D-edge is referred to as a straight front edge. The straight front edge (D-edge) in worktop decor is butt-jointed in the factory using waterproof D3-PVAC glue. This creates a modern 90° transition between the worktop surface and the front edge.
The D-edge (straight front edge) is especially impact-resistant and therefore offers perfect protection against chipping. The D-edge is made of durable plastic (PP = polypropylene).
Maximum length per piece 510 cm
Maximum depth 117 cm
The Nobilia N-edge is referred to as a rounded front edge. The rounded front edge (N-edge) in the worktop decor runs in one piece from the top surface of the worktop to the underside of the worktop. This creates a seamless transition between the worktop surface, front edge, and underside.
Maximum length per piece: 510 cm
Maximum depth 120 cm
Looks: From oak worktops to stone and concrete looks – perfect for the “kitchen worktop” in any style.
Slim Line 16 mm – Thin but durable
The Nobilia Slim Line worktop with a thickness of 16 mm brings a modern look to your kitchen. The HDF core (high-density fiberboard) provides stability comparable to our standard 38 mm worktops.
The surface made of high-quality laminate (HPL/CPL) is easy to maintain and durable. An all-round waterproof decorative edge in the worktop decor protects it on all sides – front, left, right, and back. The Slim Line worktop from Nobilia is a perfect match for modern handleless (LineN) kitchens.
The maximum length of a continuous worktop is 340 cm. The minimum size is 25x20 cm (W x D). For transport safety reasons, cut-outs for SlimLine worktops can only be made on site.
Xtra 38 mm & 16 mm – flush-mounted & extra durable:
The Nobilia Xtra worktop (38 mm or 16 mm) enables flush-mounted installation of approved hobs and sinks
(insert approval list here).
Flush-mounted means that your sink and hob are recessed directly into the worktop without any transition.
The authentic 3D structure creates a natural stone/solid wood look. An extra-thick 9.4 mm laminate makes the kitchen worktop robust and even impact-resistant in normal household use (DIN 68930).
The MicroPlus finish creates an antibacterial surface. The modern, straight front edge is high-quality sealed; the construction is extra water-resistant and resistant to swelling.
Heat-resistant up to 180 °C (dry) / 100 °C (moist).
Our Xtra worktops are equipped exclusively with the modern, straight front edge (D-edge) at the factory.
Xtra Ceramic – real ceramic, premium kitchen worktop:
The Nobilia ceramic worktop is the first choice for minimalist kitchens: completely water-repellent, does not swell, especially scratch-resistant, stain-resistant, and heat-resistant > 180 °C (dry).
It enables flush-mounted installation of approved hobs and sinks – for the perfect look in your premium kitchen.
The applied PP front edge (polypropylene) has a shock-absorbing effect and reduces chipping – with this innovation, we protect your ceramic worktop and guarantee durability that is second to none. At the core, foamed glass (expanded glass, very light and dimensionally stable with excellent insulation/weight properties) provides stability; a fiberglass counterlayer on the underside stabilizes the composite and minimizes warping.
The result is a ceramic worktop at premium level – exclusive, durable, and hygienic.
Quartz stone 12 mm & 38 mm – elegant, dense & easy to maintain:
The Nobilia quartz stone worktop combines a premium look with everyday practicality.
Polished surfaces: elegant, modern, visually close to granite but significantly more affordable. The quartz composite is refined perfectly for the demands of your kitchen. Thanks to our special processing, we achieve lower porosity as well as better stain and acid resistance and a uniform structure.
Strong on hygiene: non-porous and waterproof – ideal as a kitchen worktop for high demands.
Available in 12 mm (delicate lines) or 38 mm (striking edge). Flush-mounted installation of approved sinks and hobs ensures seamless transitions and easy cleaning.
Result: a durable kitchen worktop in quartz stone quality that perfectly balances design, ease of care, and performance – and at an unbeatable price.
Custom worktop – so it fits right away
With a custom worktop, you get a millimeter-precise fit, clean connections, and a durable kitchen worktop, whether for a new kitchen or for replacing worktops.
We manufacture cut-outs, notches, and trims exactly according to your specifications.
How to measure correctly – in 4 quick steps
Check the niche: Measure the width at the front, center, and back, ideally at worktop height. Use the smallest value.
Measure depth: Measure from the wall to the front edge (including the desired overhang). For our Nobilia cabinets with handles, we recommend a worktop depth of 60 cm. For kitchens with handle rails (for example handle rail 760), we recommend a worktop depth of 58.5 cm. For handleless LineN kitchens, the kitchen cabinets are normally pulled forward 15 mm from the wall, so a worktop depth of 60 cm is recommended.
Plan cut-outs: Enter sink/hob dimensions according to the manufacturer's measurements (including distances to the wall). We are happy to assist you with any questions.
Allow for clearance: For fitting into niches, allow for installation clearance (see below).
How much safety margin should be deducted?
For HPL/CPL, Slim Line, and Xtra, we recommend deducting a total of 2–3 mm from the smallest width measurement in straight niches (installation clearance). For very uneven walls, 3–4 mm. For Xtra Ceramic and quartz stone, rather 3 mm (material is very dimensionally stable). The joint is then neatly sealed with silicone or a worktop/wall connection strip.
What is the Nobilia tongue-and-groove connection (L/U shapes)?
At corner joints, the panel edges are milled at the factory: one side with a groove, the other with a tongue. Together with D3-PVAC glue and worktop connectors (screwed from below), this creates a precise-fitting, tight, and visually calm corner. Advantage: higher stability, larger bonding surface, and a moisture-protected butt joint. [INSTALLATION VIDEO]
Can I install it myself as an amateur?
Yes – for straight runs and HPL/CPL, installation can be done with good tools: circular saw with fine blade/guide rail, router for cut-outs, silicone, connectors, clamps. Important: seal edges/milled areas, glue butt joints, and press according to the instructions. For L-/U-shapes, Xtra Ceramic, and quartz stone, we recommend installation by professionals (weight, precision, special tools).
Tip:
Always measure several times and document all dimensions in mm.
Use manufacturer data sheets for cut-out dimensions.
If needed, order rear edge banding and end strips at the same time.
Do I as the customer need to take the tongue-and-groove connections into account when measuring?
No, we calculate the dimensions for the tongue-and-groove connection during production. Please measure only along the wall and do not add anything extra for any tongue-and-groove connections for L-shape or U-shape worktops.

Nobilia worktop vs. Ikea worktops vs. DIY store worktops
Brief conclusion: For consistently high material and workmanship quality, Nobilia worktops come out ahead; DIY store and IKEA products vary depending on the range.
DIY store worktops vs. Nobilia worktops
DIY store worktops are attractively priced, but quality and edge construction vary greatly depending on the brand. Nobilia offers consistently high factory quality: HPL/CPL 38 mm, Slim Line 16 mm, Xtra (flush-mounted hobs/sinks), ceramic, and quartz stone.
Advantages: robustness tested according to DIN 68930, PP front edge (impact-resistant), D3-PVAC butt-joint gluing, factory-applied edge banding (optionally all around), and proven long-term shape & visual stability. Of course, all installation materials are included in the scope of delivery. In addition, all worktops are cut to your exact measurements down to the millimeter.
IKEA worktops vs. Nobilia worktop
IKEA offers solid, readily available worktops with budget-friendly value for money. Quality and thickness/surfaces depend on the respective range. The standard worktop depth does not fit Nobilia kitchens, as Ikea uses different carcass depths.
As a market leader, Nobilia scores with a wide choice of materials (including Xtra Ceramic and quartz stone), flush-mounted options, high-quality edge sealing, optional rear edge banding, and very clean lines. Result: greater consistency in variants and quality, especially for precisely fitted, durable kitchen projects.
